And she has left fans even more puzzled about her mental state by recalling a conversation about the disease she recently had with her pet cat: "Kitty Purry was telling me the other night that she remembers when bird flu was in and now pig flu is cool and she wonders when kitty flu is gonna hit, as she would like to be more popular than she currently already is."

And Efron insists it was a valuable meeting - because the Titanic star doled out indispensable advice about how to avoid the trappings of fame.

Efron tells GQ magazine, "I thought I was gonna ask him questions. He ended up asking me questions, and in that, he told me a lot."He said, 'There's one way that you can really f**k this all up. In the adoption papers, seen by Britain's The Sun newspaper, Madonna states, "To deny Chifundo the opportunity to be adopted by me could expose her to hardship and emotional trauma which is otherwise avoidable.” Mercy has already been welcomed into Madonna's fold - she was spotted walking with the singer and her three children, Lourdes, 12, eight-year-old Rocco and adopted David Banda, three, and was the guest of honour at a party the superstar threw on Monday (30Mar09).

Madonna has faced growing criticism over her adoption bid, with children's charities slamming her for wanting to remove the child from her home country. A collection of Malawian civil rights groups are in talks with lawyers about launching an injunction against Madonna taking the youngster to England. But a friend of the Holiday hitmaker is adamant the star will overcome the criticism and prove successful in her adoption bid.

Pal Ben Fellows tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, “Once Madonna has put her mind to something, she achieves it - and this adoption is no different. “She told me she thought it was very important that David had a sister, she had unconditional love to give another child and was going to jump through hoops to get her. “She knew exactly what she was walking into. She was well aware that people would start sniping about it. She sent me an email just before she left for Malawi and signed it off ‘Let the storm commence!’” “Despite her reputation, Madonna is a warm, loving woman. She speaks from the heart. She couldn’t understand it (the criticism over adopting David). She was hurt. Surely it shows how loved Mercy James is going to be that Madonna is prepared to go through all of this again in order to adopt her?”
