Singer ANNIE LENNOX has criticised POPE BENEDICT XVI for discouraging safe sex in AIDS-ridden Angola.

The former Eurythmics star, who has long campaigned to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in Africa, is furious with the Catholic leader for promoting the religion's anti-contraception beliefs in the country - fearing his advice could help spread the disease.

The 82-year-old Pope visited Angola in March (09) and sparked controversy by telling reporters that condoms would aggravate the AIDS epidemic.

And Lennox is fuming about the comments.
She says, "If there was ever an example of irresponsibility, it's the Pope going to Angola, where people are dying because of unprotected sex, and telling them they should abstain. What planet is this person on?

"I have nothing against the Catholic Church or any religion. But it's like a missed opportunity. It's the highest irresponsibility for anyone to put out that message. It's undone the good work people do in terns of safe sex practises and education."

The Angola government recently estimated 2.1 per cent of the country's 16.5 million population have tested positive for HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

McKagan: 'I'd take Rose over Weiland'
Rockers Duff McKagan and Slash would go back to playing with Axl Rose before reteaming with former Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland.
The duo are still looking for Weiland's replacement a year after sacking the singer following a much-publicised bust-up - but there's no way they'd consider recalling the rock star and trying to work through their differences.
McKagan and Slash would rather reconcile with their hot-headed former Guns N' Roses frontman, Rose, first - despite the fact that their fall-out with the singer remains one of the rock world's most legendary.
Bassist McKagan insists he and Slash would work with Rose again if they had to pick between the two temperamental singers.
McKagan says, "Some bad s**t happened at the end of the last Velvet Revolver tour. It was brutal.
"There were late gigs... I just wanted it to be over."

Springsteens seal it with a kiss
Rocker Bruce Springsteen and his bandmate wife Patti Scialfa put their love on display during a duet onstage at a benefit in New York on Monday night (27Apr09) by sharing a rare kiss.
The couple is known for keeping its relationship purely professional onstage, but, following recent allegations Springsteen cheated on his wife with a member of his New Jersey gym, the pair showed a united front at a gala to honour Tom Hanks.
Just days after Scialfa missed a concert after falling from a horse, and weeks after Springsteen was named in divorce proceedings by a husband who claims the singer slept with his wife, the couple kissed before duetting on Streets of Philadelphia, the song Springsteen wrote for Hanks 1993 movie Philadelphia.
As he introduced Scialfa onto the stage, the rocker said, "May I bring out my lovely wife?" before kissing her warmly on the lips.
Springsteen has denied any involvement in the divorce, maintaining his and his wife's "commitment to one another remains as strong as the day we were married."

Soul singer JOHN LEGEND is doing his bit for the environment - he's teamed up with green organisation REVERB to ensure his upcoming U.S. tour is as eco-friendly as possible.

The Green Light hitmaker kicks off his latest roadshow on 27 June (09), and he's determined to make his carbon footprint as small as possible.

Legend and REVERB officials will be encouraging caterers to use green products and will be making every effort to neutralise the carbon dioxide emissions from every venue, hotel, flight and tourbus used, reports Billboard.com.

SNOOP DOGG testified in a California court on Monday (27Apr09) - and denied attacking a man during a 2005 concert in Washington.

Richard Monroe, Jr. alleges the hip-hop star - real name Calvin Broadus - hit him with a microphone after he jumped on stage and put his hand on the star's shoulder during a show in Seattle, Washington before security guards hauled him away and delivered a savage beating.

He told jurors in Friday's (24Apr09) opening hearing in Santa Monica, "I was getting punched, kicked, kicked, punched. It was brutal. I was really in shock. I couldn't believe it."

But the star denies the allegations, insisting he went back to his tour bus immediately after Monroe jumped on stage and was tackled by security.

Broadus, who was on the stand for almost two hours on Monday, was asked to identify performers and security personnel who can be seen on a videotape of the incident.

He claimed several people near the struggle were affiliated with The Game, who toured with him on the How the West Was Won tour.

The star told the court, "The best way for the injuries not to have occurred (was) for him (Monroe) to stay in his seat and enjoy the show like the rest of the fans."

Monroe is seeking $22 million (£15 million) in damages and punitive penalties from Broadus over the claims.

The trial continues.

Wood 'to wed young lover'
Ageing rocker Ronnie Wood is reportedly planning to marry his young lover Ekaterina Ivanova - news which has devastated his estranged wife Jo.
The Rolling Stones star, 61, split from his partner of 23 years in July (08), after his affair with 20-year-old Russian waitress Ivanova was exposed in the press.
Just last month (Mar09) his wife declared the divorcing duo are still great friends.
But a pal tells British tabloid the Sunday Mirror that Jo is no longer talking to her estranged husband as she was hoping the pair would eventually get back together.
The pal says, "Jo is devastated and now knows there is no turning back.
"Ronnie wants the divorce to be settled as soon as possible so he can marry Kat. Jo always believed this was just a silly fling but that couldn't be further from the truth. She worked really hard to remain on good terms with Ronnie despite what he has done. But now instead of sorting things out he wants to fight out any claims (in court)."

Police investigate AC/DC ticket scam
Police in Britain have launched an investigation after hundreds of AC/DC fans fell victim to a ticket scam which saw them turned away from a concert in Birmingham, England.
Hundreds of people were unable to access the rockers' gig at the LG arena on Friday (24Apr09) night, with many arriving to collect their tickets from the box office only to be informed they had been scammed by counterfeiters.
Fans holding legitimate tickets were also caught up in the chaos as massive queues formed outside the venue - meaning many missed the start of the show by over an hour.
Police arrested two men at the scene on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud. An investigation into the internet arm of the deception is ongoing.

EMINEM has made light of his history with drug dependency in a viral campaign promoting his highly-anticipated new album RELAPSE.

The Without Me hitmaker, real name Marshall Mathers III, checked into a rehabilitation facility in 2005, in an effort to kick an addiction to sleeping pills, and he's poking fun at his experiences with substance abuse by posting a snap of himself outside a bogus clinic on social networking site Twitter.com.

The seemingly innocent photo, which first appeared on Thursday (23Apr09), features the caption: "Marshall checking into Popsomp Hills."

But sharp-witted fans caught on to the joke immediately - Popsomp Hills said quickly sounds similar to "pop some pills".

A website set up in the imaginary rehab centre's name, PopsompHills.com - and linked to from Emimem's official site, bears the slogan 'We Remade You', a direct play on Eminem's hit new single We Made You.

And that's not all - prankster Eminem claims the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan facility was founded by a "Dr. Balzac", and links the website to the Wikipedia.com page for hell.But, for fans who fail to pick up on the elaborate hoax, there's one last laugh in the website's terms and conditions: "We tell our staff all of your secrets. All confidential information provided to us during the course of your treatment will ultimately be used against you. Life is too short, party harder than ever. We can help."The internet prank comes just days after Eminem unveiled the album artwork for his May (09) release - the cover image of the rapper is sculpted from pills of assorted shapes, sizes and colours.

German pop singer who was arrested for allegedly infecting a sexual partner with HIV has been released from jail after spending 10 days behind bars.

No Angels star Nadja Benaissa, who is HIV-positive, was arrested in Frankfurt earlier this month (11Apr09).

She was charged with causing grievous bodily harm after she allegedly had unsafe sex with three partners between 2004 and 2006 and neglected to tell them about her condition.

But Benaissa has now been released from custody after her lawyers argued she should "enjoy the presumption of innocence" as there is no proof she infected any of the men.

Her release is subject to undisclosed conditions.
The star faces up to 10 years behind bars if convicted.

Curtain will fall on Cher's Vegas show this december
Veteran entertainer Cher will bring 2009 to a close with the final dates in her Las Vegas residency.
The Believe hitmaker has been wowing crowds at the Colosseum at Caesar's Palace since last May (08).
She signed a deal with concert promoter AEG to perform approximately 200 shows at the venue over a period of three years, but Cher will complete the feat just before Christmas this winter.
The superstar, 62, will kick off the final leg of her Sin City stint in September (09) and perform her 90-minute show for the last time on 20 December.

Rihanna is set to bounce back from her Chris Brown break-up by headlining a girl power tour with Ciara and Keyshia Cole, according to reports.
The Umbrella singer is lining up a series of dates in North American for this coming September (09) and the two feisty females are in negotiations to join her.
A source tells Eonline.com, "Rihanna wants strong women to join her. This is a 'women empowerment' type of tour."
