Take Facebook with you on the web using Google friend connect
Google has just launched Google Friend Connect. This is a new service that allows non-social networking sites to embed social networking capabilities without having to embed all that sophisticated programming. So, users will be able to take their social networks with them and connect with friends wherever they go on the web.
This new offering from Google comes a week after Facebook and MySpace launched a similar concept, allowing users to take their profile, friends, and interactions to any participating third party site. The difference between these applications and Google Friends Connect is that GFC is virtually all-network-inclusive.
Friend Connect provides an easy way for websites to let users log in and identify themselves and other friends from their social networks. You will be able to read their comments, interact with other users and invite your social network buddies to join. An example given was for fans of Ingrid Michaelson (who???), who can now connect with other fans without having to leave her website.
Google connect was designed to enable websites to not only provide social networking with friends, but to also reduce the number of logins and the recreation of friends' lists across multiple sites or applications. A few key features are still being determined, such as whether or not to give participating Webmasters access to users' email addresses, but the service has now been fully launched.
