Shiny Preview: HP iPAQ 910 business messenger smartphone
All of those lucky enough to fly to Berlin for HP's Connecting Your World event were given a sneak preview of their latest smartphone. The HP iPAQ Business Messenger 910 is a 3G smartphone and is actually HP's first device to incorporate Microsoft Windows mobile 6.1. Not a lot of smartphones use Windows 6.1, so HP is ahead of the game - for now anyway.
The iPAQ has a very stylish exterior with a glossy, piano-black design and integrated QWERTY keyboard, which I think is a huge step-up from its unattractive sibling, the 610. This is because more emphasis has been put on the design and the actual style of the device, possibly to rival Blackberry's latest offerings?

As well as running on the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, the iPAQ uses wireless technology, integrated Bluetooth for convenient connectivity and it also has GPS navigation. It also uses tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE wireless technology for easier internet browsing and simpler email setup.
As well as all that, it offers built-in Cyberon Voice Commander and HP Voice Reply features, to enable hands-free emailing and other device commands. The purpose of the iPAQ is to simplify business and personal life, which I think it does quite nicely. All the buttons are easily accessible, apart from the SD slot which is located underneath the battery and I'm finding it very easy to navigate through as well. You can navigate through the phone with one of four ways - the stylus, your finger, a five-way navigation button and scroll wheel.
In addition to the latest entertainment applications from Windows Mobile 6.1, the iPAQ also features a 3-megapixel camera. Photos can be directly uploaded to online digital photo services, which is always a handy feature.
HP has not planned to lock the iPAQ to specific carriers nor will they be announcing any carrier deals. This super smart iPAQ will be available across Europe from June 30th for €499 (inc VAT). I've already got one though - jealous?
