Behind The Scenes at CQ - An intern's view of Shiny Towers

main.jpgJonathan Smith writes...

Welcome to the Shiny Towers, a warm and fuzzy office where the magic that is Shiny happens. The office is punctuated with friendly faces all working at what seems to be as much hobby as it is work, all suffering for their art in the rising temperatures. The overall theme for this week at Shiny has to be 'Hot as Hell'! With the damp muggy weather and lack of any breeze, the conditions in the office can be described as "close", though being professional as always this did not affect the strong working relationships in the office with spirits being high.

Monday was a slow day, meeting everyone in the office and getting used to the fact that no one verbally communicated in the office, all exchanges are carried out through Skype (really). It was Gemma, the fashion editor and Susi, the tech editor's birthdays so cakes and sweets all round, sadly no singing but there was the suggestion that we Skype the words to Happy Birthday. Work wise I spent the day getting used to how everything functions around here (including the kettle which I have just given up on now) and compiling a list of competition entries, super fun!

Tuesday I started blogging for Brandish so a lot of time was spent getting my head around all the wing-dings and doo-dahs that I need to know how to use to facilitate my blogtastic writing. In the afternoon horror of all horrors: the internet went down which never bodes well for an internet based company. Very little work could be done and my suggestion that we start a skiffle band fell on mostly deaf ears. As I left the office to deliver a package, and the team was resorting to the final of all resorts; tidying their desks, the internet unbroke itself and normal service was resumed.

Wednesday was the most fun so far, the morning was spent out at a hairdresser's filming Isabelle getting her hair cut at a salon with a twist, check it out here. I spent most of the time sat down gassing about this and that with the hair dresser, so nothing too stressful I must say. Before lunch I popped out to Neal Street to get some street style pics for Catwalk Queen, which was a lot of fun except I was worried that it looked like I was just cruising for sex. I wasn't. Check out who I snapped here. The afternoon was spent organising and sorting photos, and calling in items for a photo shoot Shiny are doing for Catwalk Queen later in the month. I finished the day off by hammering out two posts for Brandish then I was off home.

Thursday (today) has, so far, been spent much like yesterday afternoon blogging and organising photos and of course writing up this behind the scenes look into the world of Shiny. The office is a little quieter today with a few less people in. The quiet is only broken by the sporadic pieces of filming that get done in the corner of the office reviewing various different products for Shiny TV.

One can only wonder what delights Friday will bring as the Shiny team winds up for the weekend!
