Poll: Is Felipe "Never managed in Europe before" Scolari the wrong choice for Chelsea?
It's a brave move, and you've got to give Roman credit for that. Big Phil? I really didn't think he'd get the job. Okay he's won the World Cup - not a bad achievement for anyone, but a certain Mr Hurst had also won the World Cup and he didn't make a great Chelsea gaffer.
Never the less, I'll be hitting "right" on our poll below, because I think Jumbo Phil Scolari is the larger than life scary character that the Chelsea dressing room needs. If I were to doubt him however, here could be a few reasons why...
Mammoth Phil has managed about 14 different clubs - and only at one of them has lasted much longer than a year. He's had success, but Chelsea really can't afford to be looking for yet another new manager this time next year. Also, not one of those clubs has been in Europe. Winning in Asian and South American leagues might look good on your CV, but its certainly a lot easier than doing it in Europe. Not once has he entered a side into The Champions League - not great preparation for someone who presumably has to win it or get the sack.
There's also the fact he's a complete nutter, who I can't see getting along with Roman for too long. This after all is the man who punched a Serb player during Euro 2008 qualifying. I don't know. I like him, but I worry...

agreed, a gamble but i think roman is certainly smarter than a lot of people make out and will have taken all the above negatives/doubts into consideration beforehand. as long as he's not been given crazily high expectations (eg. win the champs league, fa cup & prem) in his 1st season and is given at least 2 seasons to do all that, lol, then i think things will be looking v good for us. realistically, id hope he could win us the fa cup & prem this year & anything else is a bonus. if he won anything at all in his first season that would be good also but after jose set the high standards, us chelsea fans have gotta get used to being a little dissapointed to begin with.
