Will we actually sign Keane? Are Spurs mad?

The Liverpool Echo has today reported that Robbie Keane could be unveiled as a Liverpool player within the next 48 hours after Spurs reportedly gave up on their efforts to keep the Republic of Ireland striker at White Hart Lane.

The alleged price for the 28-year-old is believed to be somewhere in the region of £20 million. Personally, I think most Liverpool fans would accept such a hefty price for an experienced international whose presence should only benefit our club's push for the Premiership title. However, with fellow forward Dimitar Berbatov also looking likely to make a multi-million pound move to our arch-rivals Manchester United, the question remains, what are Spurs playing at?

With the signings of Luka Modric, Giovani dos Santos and Heurelho Gomes this summer to add to a squad already bristling with top internationals, Juande Ramos looked to be building a squad capable of challenging for Champions League qualification this coming season. But to sell Berbatov and Keane, their top goalscorers for the past two seasons, in one summer surely represents madness on his part, especially with pre-season preparations already well under way. Ah well, if Rafa wants Robbie and if he wants to come to Anfield then I'm sure we'll welcome him with open arms. It'll be Spurs' loss though.

Why do you think are Spurs willing to sell Keane and Berbatov in one transfer window? It's a bit strange isn't it? Do you think we'll sign Keane and will United sign Berbatov? Who do you think is getting the better player? Let us know below.

They might be lining up David Villa, David Silva, Garcia or Samuel Eto.

Samuel Eto is also available for sale!

To sell Keane and berbatov as you rightly say is crazy, Liverpool would definately be getting the better player as berbatov cant be bothered to work when the going get tough. Robbie Keane never stops working!! Perhaps Ramos is not as ambitious as we first thought.

it would be a huge mistake to sell keane, whats the point in buying players of modric and di santos,s quality to then let a club talisman go. ramos would be a big poo poo head to do this.

THERE IS TWO REASONS BERBY SMOKES AND IT MEANS PUTTING A SMOKE SHELTER AT THE TRAINNING GROUND AND ROBBIE HAS JUST MARRIED A IRISH GIRL AND HER DADDY IS A LIVERSKINT FAN . AND THE OTHER REASON IS EVERY TIME ROBBIE MOVED TO A CLUB FOR ANY THINK OVER TEN MILLION HE WAS SHITE. AND BERBATOV ONLY SCORES AFTER CHRISTMAS SO THERE YOU HAVE IT YOU CHOOSE. Because we're sick of the endless illegal tapping up from Liverpool/Man Utd, newspapers and websites like this despite our constant rejections of any transfer talk?

No chance - It would be professional suidide!!!!

Posted by: sam | July 18, 2008 7:29 PM

This is a fine example why we (Spurs) don't get into the top four! But you can't keep players if they want to go, its disruptive for a start! Berbatov is a quality player but a sulker and with his tiny little 'boil' of an agent 'manure' are welcome to him! as for Keane, many a tear will be shed if/when he goes! the thought of it chokes me! BUT, once again if he wants to go what can we do! we take a step forward, then a step backwards, so frustrating! you will definately gain with Keane in the team. I thought he would be a Tottenham legend but he hasn't come out and quelled the rumours so it looks like he was a pretender all along! shame! our loss is your gain, looks like you might be genuine contenders for the title again! as for who is getting the better player? you are by a mile!

Liverpool are getting the better player
I am a spurs fan
and Robbie keane has been so great to us i think we should let him leave if he wants to leave Goodbye Robbie
But if we want top 4 ,liverpool are the team we are most likely to steal it from . and you dont sell ur best players, especiaaly to a team u target to be in their position for the near future

Posted by: bradley | July 18, 2008 7:30 PM

Good question about who would be getting the better player. Personally, I believe Keane would be more suited to Liverpool's needs and Berbatov more suited to United's although I think both Club's would do better to sign Aguero. He's the future and he is mustard. I only wish he ends up at Liverpool rather than any of our rivals

Posted by: MARADONNA-WAS-ACE | July 18, 2008 7:32 PM

As a lifelong Spurs fan who has seen Keano play on hundreds of occasions, I would take the £20m being touted at the drop of a hat. He is a good striker, but not great. On his day he can look a genius, but off his day, which happens too regularly, he can look like a clueless eegit.

Posted by: Colin | July 18, 2008 7:33 PM

Obviously it would be a great loss to us to lose two such prolific players in one fell swoop. However there are two things to consider. Firstly I have every confidence that Daniel Levy and Juande Ramos have something up their sleeves to counter these potential loses. Secondly, and most importantly, if Berbs and Keano are determined that they want to go then what is the point of keeping them? Surely it's better to have players that are totally committed to Spurs rather than those who wish they were somewhere else.

At the end of the day nothing is yet written in stone so we'll just have to see what happens.

But whatever happens I'm looking forward to battling you guys for a Champions League spot this season!

Keane will have medical either 2moro r sunday in liverpool, personal terms have been agreed with a fee in the region of 18-20 million established between spurs & liverpool great signing for liverpool

Posted by: Shane | July 18, 2008 7:38 PM

Well if you read the statement on spurs.com you can pretty much guarentee that this WILL now happen. Shame as i thought Keane would be at Spurs for life, but obviously not to be. Quality player and he will do well for you. £25m then, Thanks !!

Posted by: Stephen | July 18, 2008 7:49 PM

Good article. Im a spurs fan and dont have a clue, think Ramos wants to cash in now on berbathe'soff and maybe he feels the same about Keane? Ramos knows the game he's playing and have faith in him. Think berbs will go to barca tho as the board dont want to sell to red nose. I found his comments in the sun today as cocky and laughable! As for keane, a player that gives 110% every game and i hope he stays! But if he does'nt good luck (but not against us) and we will move on!

Posted by: jimbo yiddo | July 18, 2008 7:50 PM

Spurs have announced on their official website that they have reported both United and Liverpool for "tapping up". Liverpool have already done this of course with Barry. Spurs say they didn't want to lose these players but both have been illegally approached and Spurs now accept they want to go and are just out for the best price.

Posted by: Tom | July 18, 2008 7:50 PM

Having said all that, spurs chairman has released a statement, check out the official site!

i dont want anyone at spurs who would rather be somewhere else . Dimitar is great when things are going his way other wise i am affraid hes annother anelka. As for Robbie he will be sorely missed but life goes on and so will Spurs.

Yes we are mad and yes you probably will sign Keane. Going by the statement justissued by Levy, it seems as though he has justpaved the way for him selling keane and berbs by blaming benetiz and fergy. Levy is gutless.

Posted by: Yidboy | July 18, 2008 8:10 PM

Read Daniel Levy's comments on the Spurs website (or Sky) and you'll understand.

It's not about a willingness to sell it's about clubs, agents, managers and players acting in an unprofessional manner.

Both players have had their heads turned so what can you do? Look at how Berbatov played (sorry sulked) all last season after we blocked his move to United. It's better all around he was gone but Levy is no mug and he'll fight tooth and nail to get the right price. Just look at Carrick!

Keane is different as he's been a loyal servant and everyone know's he is Liverpool boy and man. But that doesn't excuse Rafa who's on a par with Calderon for the way he conducts business in public. Barry now Keane and the way he shops his own players for sale during press conferences (Rise, Crouch and Alonso) is nothing short of embarassing.

If the deal is done I wish Keane every success for the future. Just look at his face after the Carling Cup Final. A player of his quality deserves success.

Rafa and Fergie on the otherhand are hypocritical and deserve everything that Karma throws at them!

Posted by: Brooklyn Hotspur | July 18, 2008 8:12 PM

wer not willing to get rid of him...and keane is very over rated player actually and a lot of spurs fans think that as well..its berbatov we dnt want 2 get rid of but both pricks r negative in training and r a disgrace to football..wats da point of having teams out of the top four existing wen all der best players will start sulking because they wana play in the champions league??? there all bottle jobs who dont want the hard work of trying to earn a champions league spot. there all posers and want to b at the top level to show them selves off. WANKAS

Posted by: tg | July 18, 2008 8:12 PM

I hope the EPL throw everything your way, tut, tut, talking to agents without the clubs permission is against the RULES old boys, its not just scummypool either!! Yes even old rednose is employing the same tactics Yapping to Berba's agent etc, etc. The Rules are The RULES!! Are spurs Mad, Yes our Chairman has written to complain about you two and this time Somethings got to be done enough is enough!!

Posted by: leso | July 18, 2008 8:23 PM

As mentioned on the Official Spurs website - both ManUre and Liverpool have been reported to the Premier League this week over disgraceful behaviour in approaching players/agents without permission. Hopefully both will get maximum fines and points deductions as they're absolute scum, however I suspect they will get nothing more than a slap on the wrist and end up signing both players at reduced cost neither of which Spurs had any intention of selling before they were approached. Hypocrites

Posted by: SiadwellHere | July 18, 2008 8:24 PM

I have been a big fan of Liverpool but your current manager done some crazy thing , signing Robbie keane would be madness at 20million he’s smart and has good eye for goal but don’t forget under glen Hoddle as well few other spurs manager he didn’t regular football the tottenham style of play suite both Robbie and berb and fear both Liverpool and Manchester will buying all fur coat and no knickers players who were great together but not so good separated one good thing if both deals go though spurs will getting around 50 million which round figure you make for playing and winning champion league, and that not taking in consideration other 30million we could make from other fringe players in this market that good business

Posted by: hellwelovespurs | July 18, 2008 8:25 PM

Why couldnt rafa just keep his arragant mounth shut for 2 mins, this levy fcuker is not to be messed with, remember he got £10m from Chelsea when they messed with them.
thought it was funny that no one from spurs come out and said anything, theyve been building a case against us, we'll lose points over this i tell you, especialy after the way hes treated villa.
Keanes a great player but screw that point deduction.

Posted by: PAUL | July 18, 2008 8:31 PM

Stitched up, Spurs have been right stitched up as they don't want to sell either of them, think you're right will be a cracking signing.

I think its disgusting the way clubs tap up players now & its considered legal?

Blatter notes Ronaldo is treated like a slave? Really? If I were a slave I cant imagine I would be thinking "This is disgusting I am getting treated like a premiership footballer here"!

What a disrespect to slaves for a starter, football is far too corrupt I fear!

Posted by: ARHG | July 18, 2008 8:32 PM

SPURS DO NOT WANT TO SELL!
We want to keep these players, Liverpool aint so bad but the way Fergie moans about Real tapping up players then he does the same, proper cunt. I'd rather Keane stayed than Berba, I dont know if u scousers can pull off Keaneo tho, so we're ok!

Posted by: HarlowYid | July 18, 2008 8:39 PM

Actually, Spurs aint wanting to sell either player. Man Utd and Liverpool, in their usual arrogant way, have used the media in an illegal way to unsettle both players. No doubt they will both succeed, but at what price?

Posted by: Blue | July 18, 2008 8:41 PM

of course Spurs don['t want them to leave. They haven't got any choice. Are Spurs Mad/ answer-no.

is this s stupid article- answer yes.

Posted by: tony galvin | July 18, 2008 8:45 PM

Of course their not mad, they haven't accepted any offers either. But the big 4 also have the biggest ego's and are too arrogant to take 'no' for an answer so what do they do? they Cheat! It's hard enough to break into the top 4 cartel as it is without having to put up with this. Spurs are by far the most ambitious team in the league given their position and its a shame they aren't playing on a level playing field.

Posted by: Jenko | July 18, 2008 9:08 PM

what will liverpool pay with?? we dont accept hubcaps....

Posted by: muzzi_spurs | July 18, 2008 9:25 PM

Spurs are indeed mad. Mad at the tactics employed by both Liverpool and United to poach two of our best players.

Tonights statement from Daniel Levy appears to show that we will have to sell both players as theyre heads have been turned and they want to leave. Ferguson usual scouting policy of watching Match of the Day then buying players who have become the finished article elsewhere is well known, which makes the two faced comments about Ronaldo and Real all the more outrageous.

Liverpools pursuit of Keane hasnt been as public as Gareth Barry, but to us its been just as unpleasant. I wasnt bothered about Berbatov, but Keano loss is an effin disaster, especially as we finally have a manager who knows how to win and a squad that is being assembled to make a real forward push in the league.

As its clear they both want to leave, the only thing we can do is squeeze the maximum amount of money out of you lot and United for them both. This is the way things are in football these days, so I wont bang on about loyalty, I may as well believe in Santa Claus too. I also dont expect the Premier League to do anything about the conduct of either yourselves or United, they have proved they're incompetance far too often for that.

What goes around comes around however, and I look forward to the shoe being on the other foot sometime in the future.

Posted by: Bruce Grove | July 18, 2008 9:32 PM

Obviously spurs aren't mad as they have reported both liverpool and man utd to the premier league for trying to tap up their players. And rightly so too, who do rafa and fergie think they are. Apparently both made enquiries and both were told the players aren't for sale, but then they went on and issued statements to the press that they were after the players, thus trying to unsettle them and forcing us to sell them. Which is very hypocritical of both as fergie is suffering the same from madrid regarding ronaldo and liverpool were desperate to hold on to gerard a few years back when there was a lot of speculation, but both saw fit to do the same. I applaud Daniel Levy. I hope Martin O'neill does the same over the Gareth Barry saga. Rafa Benitez infuriates me the most as he doesn't even seem to have the funds for both these players, at least Fergie says he has made an offer. We are trying to build a side capable of challenging for honours, why would we want to sell our best players to the very teams we are trying to challenge? It may well turn out that we have to sell one or both of these players, if they really want to go its no point keeping them, but I haven't heard either Robbie or Dimi saying they want to leave, just agent and newspaper talk. Still if we get £25m for Berbatov and £20m for Keane, I'm sure Juande will find adequate replacements, I personally would like to see Fred at the Lane.

Posted by: bubble9 | July 18, 2008 9:36 PM

Oh dear, I have just read that both Keane and Berbatov have asked to leave and join liverpool and man utd. Oh well, your tactics have worked, I hope the premier league throw the book at both these so called respectful football clubs.

Posted by: bubble9 | July 18, 2008 9:42 PM

Ridiculous comments.

After the way Rafa and Alex have trapped off about it to everyone under the sun - and thus tempting the players away - why would Spurs now wanna keep 2 players that dont wanna stay?
The 2 offending clubs have basically prized the players away with a crow-bar.

An official complaint has been made now, anyway. And rightly so ... bloody hypocrites!

Posted by: Spurs | July 18, 2008 9:58 PM

Dream-on!! All your be getting when it comes to Keane is a big fine from the EPL for the illegal approach, tut tut you have to get PERMISSION first!! MUGS!!

Posted by: leso | July 18, 2008 10:01 PM

I don't actually think spurs want to let either player leave. I know it's difficult for you lot to read up there... but if you go to the spurs website you'll see that daniel levy has blasted both ferguson and benitez.

The way Benitez & Ferguson have acted. I hope Spurs tell them that they would rather see them rot in the reserves than play for either Manure or the Scousers. Both are under contract and contrary to your story Spurs do not want to sell either player. However Spurs fans only want players at the Lane who want to play for the club.
Its not an easy situation for the club to resolve.
If they do go I hope Spurs wring out every penny
I can sort of understand Berbatov. But why would Robbie Keane want to take a step down?

Posted by: Canuck Yid | July 18, 2008 11:59 PM

The reason we're selling him to you is because we have little choice - the player has made it clear that he wants to join you, as has Berba with Man Utd, so they'll both go. Spurs will simply try to get top dollar for both players, and probably end up £50m+ better off.

Very sad day for Spurs, but also for football in general given the report to the FA for both Pool and Utd's behaviour.

Posted by: Ice | July 19, 2008 12:07 AM

I really dont understand what you are trying to say. We aren't looking to sell either player - but if the players want away then we may as well capitalise as much as possible. That's not mad that's just sounfd business in my opinion. I am also sure that if our coffers are filled with around £50m for the two Ramos must have immediate replacements in mind.

Posted by: Arpen | July 19, 2008 1:50 AM

If you think Spurs really have that much say in the matter then you are sadly mistaken. Regardless of contracts, if a player wants out, he gets out these days. Simple as. It doesn't help when your club (and United) speak openly about your interest in players in order to unsettle them, regardless of being told already that we don't want to sell.

So no, it's not strange. It's sad and inevitable in today's times. I feel my season-ticket is about to depreciate considerably. I could stand losing Berba but Keane, it just doesn't bear thinking about.

Posted by: Chingford Spur | July 19, 2008 2:49 AM

Can Liverpool afford the 20 Mill? Seems like you might have to sell a few more players before you'll have enough money for Robbie.

Posted by: Mobster | July 19, 2008 5:22 AM

Why do you think? Because your manager tapped up our player, and "turned his head"... What's Levy going to do? Force Keano to stay? Force shrugmeister Berba to stay? Better to get 50 million quid in from the two most over-mortgaged clubs in the league. And we'll spend it better than we did last summer. Throw in Alonso and you can have Keane for free...

Posted by: easy-o | July 19, 2008 6:43 AM

Agree ' Spurs would be mad to undermine the comming season - having bought the sort of quality needed to realy have a go at competing for the top end of the table !
Though in there defence - once again the so called big 4 have conspired to undermine any real chance they have by working to dismantel the team before they have kicked a ball in anger.
Mancs did it with Carrick - Spurs didnt have the chance to play Burbs & Carrick ......
Now they most likely will not have the opportunity to play Moderic Burbs & Keen is it because Pool & Mancs realy want these players or because they see an opportunity to once again undermine a club that with a little time & luck could realy make a diference to the end of year results .... last season neither pool or the mancs where able to convincibly deal with Spurs / same can be said for the Chelski & the Arse ... each of which can not afford to finish out side of the big 4 club ......

It is really starting to look like a conspiracy to protect their status, rather than a genuine desire to buy Spurs players - its not like there arnt cheaper younger options available with equivelant pedigrees ......... Villa / Huntelaar etc,

Besides Spurs the Nuetrals & those that are tired of being lorded over by the arrogant 4 We & football are the biggest loosers ......

If I was Spurs .... I certainly wouldnt Boo either player on there return to the club ......... but a long cold silence ...........might just make them stop for a moment, for the $$ players earn, they should A. respect the contracts they have signed - as mature adults & in good faith - the same they expect from their employers

B. Show a little loyalty to the clubs that have spent big & put faith in them to do their level best for the shirt & fans - its called respect

C. have a little patience - if you sign for 4 years - you can not complain that you really wanted to play for a diferent team just because you decide you liked them as a boy

Posted by: Blue Tuatara | July 19, 2008 6:51 AM

Your article is strange. It suggests that Spurs are willing parties to these transfers, whereas in fact Daniel Levy has reported both Manchester United and Liverpool to the Premier League for illegally tapping up the players after he had said they weren't for sale. They will both go now, of course, as they are ruined as Spurs players, and so the tedious monopoly of the Big Four will continue. The message from the Champions League clubs to the rest is clear - we do what we like. So far as the quality of the players is concerned, Berbatov has more class, but is lazy and sulky. Tracking back isn't for him - that's for the plebs. Keane works like a dog for the team, gets in great positions, but misses plenty of sitters.

Posted by: DavetheSpur | July 19, 2008 7:06 AM

The top 4 are looking nervously over their shoulders. They see teams like Spurs, Portsmouth, Everton and Aston Villa creeping up on them, and they are scared. So what do they do? They try to unsettle key players and intefere with the preparations of those teams. As Mr Levy said, Keane and Berbatov's heads are turned and they have become a negative influence in the dressing room. Liverpool used to have some class and I for one used to have some respect for them, but they are becoming no better then Man Ure or Chelsea now. Oh, and then of course, there's Gareth Barry. Another influential player in a progressive team, who's head has now been turned. So, well done to Liverpool & Man Utd. You have succeeded, but I hope Spurs and Villa sting you for every penny you have. You must be made to pay big for the disruption you've caused

Posted by: Simon | July 19, 2008 7:23 AM

Do we have a choice?? Both Berbatov and Keane want to leave. They were tapped up

Posted by: Spurs | July 19, 2008 7:33 AM

actually both players want to leave - spurs dont need the money or need to sell the players - im not 2 bothered about berbatov these players come and go - he is not a man u player any way - far 2 moody! . as for keane he has been spurs player of the year for the last few seasons and is pure class! hope he doesnt go as he just signed 5 year contract . this would screw spurs season up in my opinion - who only have bent and dos santos left!
funny old game

Posted by: rash | July 19, 2008 9:27 AM

Are you mad? for near on 20 mil you will find most spurs fans will be willing to drive the 28 year to Anfield themselves!!
This is a truly excellent piece of business by Spurs. Keano is a good player but a great player he most definately aint!
Only in this ridiculous inflated UK transfer market would a player of his ability go for that sort of sum.
After 5 years we have seen the best of old keano but he will run his heart out for you. 20 MIL! Bloody marvellous!

Posted by: WHITEHARTLAD | July 19, 2008 9:50 AM

If they wern't tapped up...

Also, as much as I love Kean, if Manure get Berbatov you might as well not bother as they will win everything untill he leaves/gets old.

Not sure what the team will be in the first game next season...looking like we will play a 3-7-0 formation at the moment!

Keane is 28 years old and liverpool are willing to pay 20M quid! To my mind this is verging on financial mis-management! As a life long liverpool fan I have often questioned the financial acumen of our advisors. It is a joke. Spurs must be chomping at the bit to take our money! We sell an English international striker for 10-11M and are willing to buy a player with only a couple of years left for nearly double that! If Liverpool are going to spend that sort of money on a striker then they should be buying someone who is under 25. We could have bought keen 4 years ago for around 7M. Wake up liverpool!

Posted by: Bill | July 19, 2008 10:26 AM

As a Spurs fan (who comes in peace) I am speechless. We are meant to have faith in Ramos, and I know he can do amazing things with clubs but... what is he doing!!!???

Good luck with Robbie though. He is a real asset and a fantastic ambassador for the sport. Having been such a loyal servant to Spurs and only having a Carling Cup medal to show for it I think it would be harsh for Spurs fans to begrudge the man leaving.

Good luck Robbie and good luck Liverpool. Hopefully he will help you prise the premier league from Manure's filthy hands

Posted by: YidArmy | July 19, 2008 10:38 AM

Robbie wants to leave because even tho Spurs said that we don't want to sell him benitez threw his toys out and went public to unsettle one of our longest serving players!!

Posted by: Jason Blackall | July 19, 2008 10:46 AM

Spurs are not willing to sell, it's just top four clubs have champs league and these players want to be playing at that level whilst they are at the top of their game. The bigger you are, the more little clubs you have to pick on, it's the football food chain.

Are you for real? What are Spurs playing at? I think you should be asking that question about your own club! We don't WANT to sell these players but they have been tapped up by more successful clubs so we will have to sell them and Liverpool and Utd will have to pay extortionate fees for players with only 2 or 3 seasons left at the top. Liverpool aren't the club that held themselves with such grace that they once were...they also don't win anything anymore and spending £20mill on Robbie Keane will not change that...it will however completely ruin Stevie Gerrards natural game because Keano plays so deep (generally because he's chasing his poor first touch). He's a decent player but he really isn't what you need, and £20mill is far too much.

I don't think our board has much choice but to sell. We didn't want to but both players have expressed their desire to play for utd and your boys.

You're getting(sometimes sulky)quality and so are your rivals. Happy days then, unless you support spurs. Still 50 mill and a manager who nearly smashed the top two in spain with a team that played just one up front is the positive i'll take from this.

Spurs, Crazy??
I know they scored a bagful of goals last season, but the number of chances they actually missed, combined with the number of times they gave the ball away and/or sulked because of either being substituted or being left on the bench - I'd say that £25-£60m for the pair of them isn't bad business at all.
If you then take into account that they are 27 and 28 years old - and made it clear that their heads have been turned by the attention... then it's best to get shot of them, their wages and attitudes, and like Ramos says... find some younger, better players to fill their boots.
Good luck to both Red armies.... you'll have some painful missed chances to watch if you end up getting these 2... even though they are a joy to watch...

We don't want to sell either player your fookin idiot. The fat spanish waiter and the sweaty sock have illegally unsettled them as only 4 teams can play in the CL and you can't break into the top 4 without Russian roubles. Football ain't a sport no more.

Posted by: Paul | July 19, 2008 12:00 PM

simple, spurs dont want to sell. The top 4 clubs just wave the champions league carrot infront of them and they want off. Spurs cant keep players who dont want to be there. Whilst the top 4 continually nick the top players of the teams in 5th, 6th, 7th then the top 4 will never change, great for the top 4 but a disaster for football.

Spurs will get the last laugh, when we take your champions league spot next year.

This is a ridiculous article. Of course Spurs don't want Keane and Berbatov to go. Unfortunately though, the big 4 think they can just go around bullying the other clubs and unsettle these players, in order to get them on the cheap. As soon as Keane and Berbatov said they wanted to leave for Liverpool and Man U, they were gone. There is no way a club like Tottenham can keep these players, when their minds are already at a different club. I'm not so dissapointed at Berbatov, but Keane's move to a club with a proven track record of ruining decent players is really hard to take. The big 4 just think they can go around getting any players they want and stop any competition making a challenge for those Champions league places. The Premier league just allow it too. Last time Liverpool didn't finish 4th, they changed the rules. Last time it looked like Arsenal were gonna fail to qualify for the CL, the Tottenham squad all came down with food poisoning. Very strange. It all boils down to the top 4, poaching the top players and being given every advantage to stop any other teams qualifying for the CL. We have no choice to sell those players, now that Benitez and Ferguson have totally unsettled them and all this after Ferguson called Real Madrid a disgrace for their behaviour over Ronaldo.

Just have to hope that Spurs can buy big and still finish above Liverpool and Arsenal.

COYS!!!

It isn't a question of Spurs wanting to sell either let alone both of the players - it is a question of both players been offered a realistic chance of silverware a big pay day for their agents and the sat state of affairs in fooball these days of players loyalty being nothing like what it was. Most if not every Spurs supporter wants these 2 to stay and give their all for the club - however it has been clear that for some time Berbatovs head has been turned by United and his effort on the pitch has reflected that - the last thing we need is for both players playing like that - they are no use to man nor beast like that - The 58 Million or so that is being mooted by the press should buy us an equaliy formidable strike force for the coming season. Personally I wish them both good luck - I thing Robbie has been a great servant - however I know should they sign for the 2 clubs mentioned then I am sure that they may well get the welcome that Campbell did every time he returned to WHL

£20 million for Keane?
He won;t tolerate a rotation policy - thats why spurs let defoe go.
He'll spend his time moaning shouting and pointing.
£20 million? spurs must love it

I think you're missing the point. I don't think Ramos wants to sell either. But what can he do after ManU and Liverpool's managers have tapped up the players via the media and now they want to go. No point making them stay if they don't want to play. Rafa/SAF should try sticking to the premiership rules of conduct regarding transfers.

The real problem is that when the money is there you must take it...As a Spurs fan I'd welcome around 45 mill for the both just as long as there is some plan for replacement. Dimitar is a detriment to the squad with his constant pouting. And while Keane scores a lot, he is nothing but a poacher who could score a lot more if he decided to go forward in the box. There are many other players I'd rather see at the Lane...i.e. Villa, Santa Cruz. But if Spurs lose both and don't have big names to replace them then they are completely mad.

I dont know why we are complaining, berba has not played a decent game since March and we will get £25 mill plus--- and we have won sod all with keane in his 6 years with us [even if hes given us great service]and we may get 15 Mill plus for him----lets change it around a bit---our midfield this year will have some pace for once---take the 40 Mill and buy a couple of goalscorers and we have a top 4 team.
We have a great year ahead!!!!

20 million,i have email Levy picking up Robbie tomorrow from Gatwick and driving him to Anfield!

Posted by: bas | July 19, 2008 5:33 PM

Bluff. Liverpool don't really want Keane and won't sign him - especially not for 20 million. Benitez is bluffing so Villa will come back to the negotiating table on Barry. Think about it - Pool have been publicly chasing Barry for 9 months - their "final" offer is 15 mil plus Steve Finnan. Are you all so gullible to believe that suddenly Hicks and Gillette are going to fork over 20 mil for Keane. Come on folks - read between the lines a little...

Posted by: TexsSpurs | July 19, 2008 5:44 PM

Please Sign him. I am of the minority of spurs fans that truly know about keane. So often I have been gunned by the spurs fans foe my opinion of him, but i didnt care I KNOW FOOTBALL. He slows up our play, takes far too many touches, has no vision, misses sitters and has no pace. I said last season that ramos would get rid of him. Thank you Rafa youve done me and spurs a huge favour. Good riddance and u boys will be cursing the fact that u signed him mark my words.

Spurs are run by some riches men in the world , first rule in business if someone wants to buy something you want is play hard done by they think you’ll be at a lost, Liverpool have fallen hock line and sinker, Robbie keane been great player for spurs but last season he scored massive 14 goals for spurs in league ,don’t forget he always one of first to sub … 18-20 million if we get that I’d be happy as larry as spurs fan with 28 million for Manchester united and further 5-8 million from ufea cup run we would made more than manu and Liverpool without hardly kicking a ball …………..

As a Spurs fan (who also comes in peace), I believe Ramos is a very bright guy. Levy has been a very astute Chairman. Anyone with half a football brain knew that Berbatov would not be here for the new season. The activity happened later than anyone thought it would, but I believe Ramos has been quietly planning for life post Berbatov. The loss of Robbie will bruise some hearts of the WHL faithful ... me included ... but he was a great servant for Spurs, and I wish him well!! I am not sure how well he will fare up north. On the one hand, I agree a combination of Torres and Keane could be great, but Robbie DOES drop deep, and I have a feeling he and Gerrard will trip over each other. Lamps and Gerrard don't play well together ... and yes, I know Robbie is a striker, and Lamps isn't, but we'll see. BUT ..... if all good teams build from the back, Ramos now has a very solid unit indeed. On paper, the best and deepest we've had in years. Modric is a great addition, and will create ... and link effectively ... and, I believe, carve genuine openings. We couldn't say that 12 months ago! Lennon has pace ... and Steed gives his heart, but both lack real guile and genius. Adding Bentley will further strengthen and balance an already impressive attacking phalanx. Bale is fit, and I truly think he will be massive!!! I do not see Capel coming, but I do see Bale being the man, so to speak. Now then ... GBP 40 Million in the bank from Berba and Keano (both late 20's) will buy two very good players ... advance Senor Ramos!!

Honestly knowing that Keane wants to go I think that you will be getting a very hard deal. Robbie has only really come alive since Berba came to Spurs. Before then it was Defoe who was the main man at Spurs. Its like Rebrov and Shevshenko all those years ago. Both were fantastic as a partnership but Sheva was always better than Rebrov and Rebrov needed him to help bring him up a level. Same with Berba and Keane. Keane needs Berba with him in order to be world class. Berba doesn't need anyone to be world class. For £20 mill you can have him. We got the best years out of him and you might get 1 decent season but he won't get regular games with Benitez rotation policy anyway. BTW not an attack on Liverpool but more a commentary about what your going to be shelling out a lot of money for.
