The iconic Lotus that Roger Moore drove in The Spy Who Loved Me has fetched £111, 500 at auction.

The sports car is one of two complete, fully functioning models that were used for the driving scenes in the James Bond movie starring Roger Moore and Barbara Bach.

The 1976 Esprit Coupe was sold by Bonhams to a private US collector who was bidding over the telephone against a number of people.

The anonymous winner described himself as both a Lotus and James Bond aficionado and said the car would be sent to Atlanta, Georgia.

A Bonhams spokesman said: "We are delighted with the result and delighted that it attracted worldwide attention."
