Kevin Whitehead fell on his feet as well as his head after a motorcycle crash which left him with amnesia.
He has married a former girlfriend he found through website Friends Reunited – after doctors told him to search the internet for clues about his forgotten past.
The 28-year-old spotted Jane Peart on the site but could not understand why he had her phone number until she reminded him they had dated a decade earlier.
And memories of their romance came flooding back as soon as the London Underground worker, from Peckham, south-east London, met up with his ex-love.
Mr Whitehead, who had planned to move to Spain just two days before he collided with a lorry on his motorbike in 2002, said: 'The accident changed my life in more ways than one. I was about to go abroad when it happened but then Jane came along in the most bizarre way.'
And health and safety officer Ms Peart, who had split from her previous boyfriend shortly before Mr Whitehead got in touch, added: 'Kevin's crash was the best thing that ever happened to me.'
Doctors told Mr Whitehead to trawl the internet for clues about his life after he spent six weeks in hospital following the accident.
