Couple recycle tonnes of litter for honeymoon

Rubbish Couple
Cash converters: John and Ann Till hunt high and low

A couple spent three months trawling the streets for litter so they could recycle it and turn it into air miles to pay for their honeymoon flight.

John and Ann Till, collected 60,000 items in their daily and often nightly quest for cans, bottles and plastic containers.

They took each load to a Tesco store not far from where they live in Petersfield, Hampshire, where one club card point is awarded for every four items recycled in its machine.

Points were turned into vouchers which were then converted into 36,000 British Airways air miles.

'It's funny how you do get interested and excited about rubbish after a while,' said Mrs Till, 24.

'At the very beginning we thought it was going to be impossible – but as we were getting more and more points and working it out in our heads as we went along we realised it was going to be possible,' said Mr Till, 31.

John and Ann's wedding day

By May, the pair had reached their goal and booked their August honeymoon. They sailed to New York on Queen Mary 2 and toured America before flying home from Atlanta, Georgia.

'It did raise a smile when we were in business class on the flight back to Gatwick to think that the litter louts of Petersfield had paid for the pleasure,' added Mr Till.

Great story...Wish we had a Tesco here. At the rate Americans throw trash on the streets I'd be flying all over the world in no time.

I remember as a kid collecting glass bottles from around the neighbourhoods to turn in for the deposit and buy junk food (candy, ice drinks, etc.) after school. What an inventive way to make enough for a honeymoon, but boo to the slobs that make these things possible.

Ac... not as difficult as you think, given how lazy people are these days!
