The computer-generated ebb and flow of The Camel's Back sounds like the sort of gurgling bucolic stream you find in Disney flicks but beneath a surface of eccentric sounds and malfunctioning clicks and whirrs lies an outstanding and unlikely exercise in hip-swivelling rhythm'*'blues.
From poppy opener I Want That to the nifty jazz underpinning climactic final track Parker, a never-ending current of doo- wop vocals, tumbling percussion, sinewy funk lines and scratchy brass take this album towards some parallel speakeasy on the French Riviera. In other words, it's a record to dance to and there's nowt sappy about that.
