HAVING spent the last week trying to rid himself of the all too painful recollections of Old Trafford, Jamie Carragher is hoping this weekend's Merseyside derby will give him much more pleasant memories.
Suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Man United is never going to make a Liverpool player happy with himself, but when you live and breathe the club in the way that Carragher does the pain is always going to be that bit more acute.
That is why he can’t wait for Howard Webb to blow the whistle and signal the start of the 207th meeting between Merseyside’s Reds and Blues – as far as he’s concerned, kick off can’t come quickly enough.
“Whenever you’ve had a defeat, particularly one in a big game, you want another game to come around really quickly so you can get it out of your system,” he said. “And the good thing is they don’t come any bigger than the derby.
“We’ve had a setback but we have to bear in mind that it came at the end of a great run when we won seven games on the run and played some really good football so our job now is to get back on the pitch and look to prove ourselves again.”
