Williams tipped for Tesco Compare role

FORMER boss of confused. com Debra Williams is taking up a new role with Tesco Compare.

The Western Mail has learned that Ms Williams will be confirmed next week at the helm of the retailer’s growing online price comparison business.

Her appointment follows the ending of the joint venture between the supermarket giant and the Royal Bank of Scotland in the running of Tesco Personal Finance – which is now fully owned by Tesco.

Tesco launched its price comparison site last year and has made in-roads into the increasingly competitive UK price comparison site market.

Ms Williams is a former managing director of price comparison site confused. com, the Cardiff-based subsidiary of motor insurance group Admiral.

Ms Williams left confused.com earlier this year having been offered a new role with Essex-based Highway Insurance Group – a position she didn’t take up.

Yesterday a spokeswoman for Tesco Compare said she couldn’t comment on any appointment speculation.

However she added: “There are a number of announcements coming up, but we cannot confirm anything at this stage.

“We have ambitions to grow market share by leveraging the Tesco brand to steal a march on the competition.”
