Simon Andrews has revealed he has fractured bones in his hand and damaged ligaments in his fingers, but remains determined to compete in the latest round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park.
The Lloyds Jentin Yamaha rider has been struggling with injuries sustained in a crash at
Mallory Park last month, but after being forced to pull out of his World Superbike wild-card at
Brands Hatch, Andrews coped well with a fine pair of results at
Knockhill.
Nonetheless, with the hand injuries adding to his leg ailments, Andrews is conscious of the greater challenge Cadwell Park represents compared to Knockhill.
Even so, he is eager to get back on track and at least attempt to ride around his problems and target another good result this weekend.
"At Knockhill we discovered that I had fractured the bones in my hand and damaged two ligaments that run through my fingers which didn't show up when we first had it x-rayed because of the swelling,” he told the British Superbike website.
“I have been in the gym but I can't do my normal training regime as I can't put too much pressure on the hand and if I compress it then it is just painful."
"I am going to be racing at Cadwell Park, as we raced at Knockhill without too much of a problem. Cadwell only has a few extra left handers so it shouldn't be too bad, the only problem will come with holding on over the Mountain! There is no easy way to fix it so it is going to take a while to heal."
"When it comes to race day the adrenaline will be pumping and you get to that do or die stage. You just have to get in there and forget about it. Practice and qualifying is going to be the hard thing as it is not like racing where you have to be straight on it and it is not so strenuous."
