Andreas Zuber is hoping that moving to a third different team in as many seasons of competing in the GP2 Series will be the catalyst that takes him to the title in 2008.
Despite running with eventual champions iSport International last season, the UAE-based Austrian suffered to much misfortune to challenge team-mate - and new Toyota
F1 driver -
Timo Glock for the title, and has shipped out to join Piquet Sports for 2008.
Although the squad pushed
Lewis Hamilton hard for the 2006 crown, it was little more than a regular point scorer last year, but Zuber is confident that Piquet Sports posseses the talent and experience to help him achieve his goal.
“I am convinced that this team will give me the opportunity to fight for the title,” he said, having signed on the back of a successful winter test, "“Piquet Sports has optimised the car, and it will be vital to be at the top right from the beginning of the season, and score points continuously. Given that there are 22 races this season, this is more important than winning once and then dropping out three times in a row.”
Although he is quick to tip iSport - which runs Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok - and ART Grand Prix - with Asia Series champion Romain Grosjean and Luca Filippi driving - as natural rivals for the title, Zuber also singles out new team-mate Pastor Maldonado as a real threat. The 23-year old Venezuelan has already shown his pace in testing, but Zuber insists that there is no trouble getting along.
“We have already worked very well together during the tests, so it looks very promising" he revealed, before pointing out that the winter sessions count for very little when the season starts, "It was simply too cold back then, and we drove with hard tyres. Which means that you need several laps to reach operating temperature - and then an accident brought out the red flags once more. If I managed three or four fast laps in two days that would have been a lot.”
