LEGO Batman cartoon in works News

News by Johnny Minkley

28 August, 2008

Not content with the stratospheric success it's enjoyed in gaming circles, Traveller's Tales is turning its licence-to-print-money LEGO formula into a US cartoon, built using the Batman game engine.

Earlier this month word reached us, via TT president Jon Burton, that the studio was "making a kids' TV show". The UK developer has now revealed to Eurogamer that this is a spin-off from the imminent LEGO Batman.

"We're looking to do... a LEGO Batman series," producer Rich Earl told us last week during Games Convention. "I think they're looking at doing a one-off initially; and they're basically able to utilise the assets, because our team has brought Lego characters to life."

Despite Burton's original comments to Variety, it seems the cartoon is being produced by "a separate studio in the States", according to Earl.

He added: "My understanding is that they will use the engine, the Maya files where the characters come to life, but they'll be creating animated... I think it's a 20-minute cartoon. I'm personally quite intrigued to see how it comes out. LEGO, every time they've had a new brand out, they've done some CGI stuff as well, but I think this will be quite different."

Be sure to check out our hands-on with LEGO Batman elsewhere on Eurogamer. The game's out on all major formats this autumn.
