Ben Kinsella's family face youths accused of his murder

The grieving parents of knife victim Ben Kinsella yesterday came face to face with the three youths accused of his murder.

The 16-year-old's father George, 48, gripped the hands of his wife Debbie, 46, and daughter Jade, 22, during the brief court hearing. Ben's sister Brooke, 24, the former EastEnders star, stayed home with sister Georgia, 13. The family wept as Juress Kika, Michael Alleyne, and Jade Braithwaite, were remanded in custody.

Members of the public gallery hurled abuse when Braithwaite, 19, appeared first to face murder charges before Highbury Corner magistrates in Islington, north London.

Kikka and Alleyne, both 18, were met with shouts of "you're going to get it" and "you're dead scumbags" as they stood in the dock with five guards. The three, wearing t-shirts and tracksuit bottoms, spoke only to confirm their names and ages. David Davies, prosecuting, said: "There are concerns that there may be reprisals and we believe it is not necessary for the addresses to be read out in open court."

Kika is also accused of robbery and causing grievous bodily harm in a separate incident.

Ben was stabbed 11 times outside a party at Islington bar Shillibeers where he was celebrating the end of his GCSE exams.

He died in the arms of Birds of a Feather star Linda Robson's son Louis, 16, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Kika and Alleyne were arrested on Monday in Chadwell Heath, east London and Braithwaite in Bethnal Greenon Tuesday.

An 18-year-old arrested in Islington on Monday has been bailed to return to a London police station pending further inquiries.

No applications for bail were yesterday made on behalf of the defendants.

District Judge Alan Jones ordered that the three appear at the Old Bailey for a plea and case management hearing on October 13.
