The grieving widow of a British combat medic killed by a bomb in Afghanistan yesterday paid tribute to him as "a devoted husband, father... and hero".
Cpl Barry Dempsey, 29, from Ayrshire, died during a joint British-Afghan operation in the Gereshk area of Helmand Province with the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
He leaves a wife Shelly, son Charlie and daughter Andie. Shelly said: "He died a hero. He was doing a job he loved. His family and the Army were his life. He was a devoted husband and father."
Lt Col Nick Borton said: "He served with bravery and dedication, doing what he was best at."
Three others in the unit were treated for shrapnel and blast injuries after Monday's roadside blast.
