Peter Crouch to head back to Portsmouth

Peter Crouch is set to end his Anfield misery this weekend by teaming up with Harry Redknapp again in a £10million deal.

Redknapp has beaten off a host of Premier League clubs to lure the England striker back to Portsmouth.

The Pompey boss had a £9m offer rejected last week by Kop chief Rafa Benitez, who was holding out for £15m, but Redknapp succeeded with his improved bid.

Redknapp refused to pay more than £10m for Crouch because he has less than 12 months left on his Liverpool contract - and the cash-strapped Benitez finally caved in.

Redknapp sold Crouch to Liverpool three years ago for £7m when he was Southampton boss.

In a busy weekend at Anfield, England keeper Scott Carson's Reds career is over with Brazilian Diego Cavalieri set to join in a £3m deal from hometown club Palmeiras.

Cavalieri, 26, will be Pepe Reina's understudy, leaving Carson surplus to requirements after seven appearances in three-and-a-half years at the club.

Borussia Dortmund's Swiss right-back Philipp Degen and Italian left-back Andrea Dossena of Udinese have also signed four-year Kop contracts
