MAN Roland explored the efficient enhancement of coating in commercial at the 13th Praxisdialog attended by 120 people in the company's Graphic Centre in Offenbach (Germany).

With visitors from Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and France Frank Kamphuis, the research and development laboratory manager of coating manufacturer ACTEGA Terra, discussed the efficient use of coating in commercial printing.

He focused on the characteristics of different water-based coating systems, such as gloss and matt coatings, effect coatings and primers, as well as on their applications and advantages in production.

Volker Sehring, a consultant on printing systems at the MAN Roland Graphic Centre, concluded the theoretical part of the presentation with technical information about the qualities and applications of differently engraved anilox rollers in a press's coating unit.

During the printing demonstration in the Graphic Centre, the visitors saw commercial work printed with the what is claimed to be the highest productivity in perfecting.

They were shown the turning of the freshly printed sheets, made possible by the efficient use of coatings, that enabled both sides of the sheets to be printed at maximum speed.

The presentation also included the coating form changeover from plate to blanket by the use of Quickchange Clamp, whilst in the group discussion, a document designed for this purpose served to demonstrate further applications of coating.
