One in the i for Hyundai

We like Hyundai's i's. The i10, i30, even that monster i800, they're all good cars.

Which is why we've got high hopes - OK, not high hopes exactly, maybe reservedly ambitious hopes - for this, the i20.

Set to replace the Getz (you'll get over it eventually, honest), the i20 is set to be officially launched at the Paris motor show in a month's time before going on sale in the UK early next year.

The i10 sits on an all-new platform, and has a longer wheelbase than the Getz, which should spell good news for handling in a tough class dominated by the Clio, Corsa, and soon-to-be-launched Fiesta.

Though we've not had final confirmation of engines, we're expecting 1.2- and 1.4-litre petrols, along with a 1.4-litre diesel. That'll soon be followed by a greener 'i-Blue' 89bhp diesel model, which'll emit just 99g/km of CO2.

Also in the not-too-distant pipeline is a three-door i20. We're told prices will start at around £8,000, with a £1,000 premium on top for the five-door.

Along with a petrol-electric hybrid Santa Fe, Hyundai will also unveil a 'luxurious seven-seat sports utility vehicle' in Paris. It'll be called the ix55, and it'll probably be pretty good. It's got an 'i' in the name, see.
