A proper sportscar to stir your emotions and loosen your fillings...
Sexy, raunchy and at home on a race track
Choosing a car is like choosing a husband. The good-looking, action-loving maverick who races through life is always appealing. But, in our hearts, we know we'd be better off with someone more easy-going. Someone who doesn't frighten the neighbours. The Honda S2000 falls firmly into the maverick camp - not everyone's choice of a life partner, but a helluva good bit on the side.

In the S2000, Honda has built a proper, rear-wheel drive sportscar. Fling it around its natural habitat, the racetrack, and it's love from the minute you push the engine start button. This is a Mills & Boon hero of a car - all raw power, unforgiving performance and pulse-quickening looks. It's agile, responsive, exhilarating and, let's face it, downright sexy. Honda has tweaked the suspension settings to tone the rawness down a little in the latest incarnation, but spend a day driving it round the M25 and you start wondering if it's time to pop to the dentist. And if the ride doesn't shake your fillings loose, you might just find the people next door offering to re-arrange your dental work on a permanent basis, once you start firing up that lovely, high-revving 237bhp 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine every morning.

A top speed of 150mph and 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds should help you escape fist-waving neighbours, but CO2 emissions of 236g/km and a combined mpg of 28.2 won't endear you to the green lobby. Still, they'll have a smug chuckle when you stump up for the Group 20 insurance. But at least you won't have to put up with whinging from the back seat; in the same way that Mr Good-Looking Action Hero seldom has room in his life for anyone but himself and his latest lovely companion, the S2000 is hard-pushed to accommodate more than two people and the essentials for a dirty weekend. So, another tick for the 'Single, Selfish and Loving It' brigade. Lucky devils.
