Folkestone to receive WiMax network

Wireless connections from Orbital Net will offer speeds of up to 10 Mbit/s

Written by Neon Kelly

Folkestone is set to be the latest town in Kent to receive a WiMax wireless broadband service.

Telecoms company Orbital Net is to deploy the WiMax wireless, offering broadband speeds of up to 10 Mbit/s.

The system will work alongside Orbital Net's existing connections in the region, creating a single wireless network to cover most of Kent. High-speed broadband packages will be offered to businesses in the Folkestone area, while consumer deals will offer connectivity at 2 Mbit/s and above.

The new connections are due to be launched in April this year. WiMax is already available in Ashford, Maidstone, Canterbury and Thanet.
