Thursday, 08 May 2008 OpenOffice 3 beta ships, adds native OS X support
OpenOffice.org has introduced a public beta of OpenOffice 3
OpenOffice.org has introduced OpenOffice 3 beta, the first version of the open source productivity suite to offer native Aqua, rather than X11 support for OS X.
The beta software is available for download from the group. It also provides MS Office 2007 import filters, an improved notes feature and a built-in Solver component.
Additional new features include spreadsheet collaboration through Workbook sharing, support for over 1,000 columns in each calculation sheet and an improved notes feature in Writer.
The beta is made available to allow a broad user base to test and evaluate the next major version of OpenOffice.org, “but is not recommended for production use at this stage,” the group warns.
