Apple to pay up to $3.54 million to settle complaints on iPod battery life
Apple has moved to settle outstanding lawsuits against the company regarding iPod battery life in Canada.
The company is offering a total of $3.54 million in credits to Canadian iPod owners in order to settle two outstanding lawsuits. Credit is being offered to owners of first, second and third-generation iPods purchased before 24 June, 2004, according to local newspaper, The Gazette.
The settlement is the result of two iPod owners suing Apple because the rechargable batteries faded to non-existence within a year of purchasing the devices, contrary to the advertised claim of eight hours between recharges.
The deal must now be finalized by the courts. The next hearing is 26 May for the case being heard in Montreal and 20 June for that being heard in Toronto.
As many as 80,000 Canadians could be eligible, including 11,310 Quebecers. The refund will be provided in the form of a credit note to be applied against purchases through Apple’s online retail store.
