Sybase has again confirmed plans to introduce corporate class email support for the iPhone in its software, now promising the solutions will ship later this year.

While declining to be too specific, Sybase chairman and CEO John Chen said on Monday at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in New York that the solutions will ship “soon”.

Sybase’s solution will allow enterprise users to access their email with the same enterprise-class security as that available to users of other devices.

Chen also confirmed his company to be working to develop similar solutions for Google Android phones.

Apple is expected to introduce enterprise class security to iPhone users next month on the release of iPhone Software 2.0. With this in mind, the company has been working with partners in order to ensure iPhone has a place in the enterprise markets.

Sybase earlier this year introduced iPhone support within its iAnywhere solutions. At that time, Mark Willnerd, vice president, Sybase iAnywhere said: “We've had significant demand from our customer base for iPhone support, as companies want to allow the iPhone as an approved device choice for wireless email, along with their other Windows Mobile, Symbian or Palm devices.

“We are excited by the recent release of the Apple iPhone SDK. We are currently exploring new possibilities for future product enhancements and additional iPhone support across our entire Information Anywhere Suite mobility platform."
