Lehman Brothers notes Mac sales surge in April, predicts new laptops soon
Mac sales grew 50 per cent year-on-year in April, compared to 17 per cent growth across the PC industry, Lehman Brothers analyst Ben Reitzes claimed in a note to clients released yesterday.
As reported by AppleInsider, the analyst notes Mac revenues also climbed - 48 per cent. Reitzes was citing NPD Group data for the claims, with the analyst suggesting this means Apple’s on course to exceed its published $7.2 billion guidance for the current quarter.
iPod sales also appear stronger than expected. Sales were up 15 per cent in units and 10 per cent in value in April, once again exceeding industry average growth figures, the report reveals.
Reitzes also raised the possibility Apple will introduce new models of its increasingly popular laptop range in the coming months, certainly in time for summer. "Checks are indicating that the attractive look of the Air may make its way into other models in terms of slimmer, metallic designs," he said.
Pending June’s release of a new model, iPhone sales appear to be slackening, according to Changewave. Research director Paul Carton said his checks reveal 25 per cent of potential iPhone customers to be deferring purchase of the device until the new model ships.
