Last.fm to allow subscribers free access to millions of song streams

Last.fm has quietly begun testing an improved version of its subscription service, offering unfettered access to streaming music drawn from the catalogue of all the major labels.

The new service is currently only available in beta, and then only to existing members of the $3/month version of its popular service.

At present, the subscription-based service lets users explore Last.fm without being exposed to ads, allows them to see who has visited their profile, lets other people listen to your radio station and is faster to use.

The future service will also introduced unlimited access to music streams from all the majors and 150,000 independent labels. Right now, Last.fm users can only listen to each available streamed track three times.

As reported by Wired News, additional features will include an “activity feed that let you see what all your friends have been listening to, real-time music popularity charts and podcasts.”
