Apple's latest feature looks at Final Cut Studio and Live From Abbey Road

Apple has published its latest in-depth feature, this time looking at how Final Cut Studio has powered the creation of the successful Live From Abbey Road TV series.

Set at EMI’s Abbey Road studios, each episode of the show (which the report reveals will soon be available for sale through iTunes) features three world class acts, each one given a full day to record their best possible performance.

Series one featured such artists as Paul Simon, Primal Scream, Dr. John, Kasabian, Massive Attack, David Gilmour and The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The small team behind the show are convinced they would not be able to create the series at the same degree of quality without using Apple’s Final Cut Studio and Macs.

“What I have here — my toolkit — includes everything I would have taken that was around a few years ago on expensive turnkey systems. Today, I am running those tools on today’s best desktop technology. It’s incredible to get to this level of workflow. If I put myself in a time machine and went back ten years, I’d never have believed I could do this,” series editor Keith says.

The report examines the Mac-based workflow used in the creation of the show, including use of HD codecs and the system’s ability to throw up sixteen uncompresssed video streams to Mottram’s desktop during the edit process.

“People using other suites who haven’t yet made the switch just don’t believe this system’s capable of work like this”, Mottram says.
