Tuesday, 07 October 2008 Apple exceeding iPhone sales targets
Apple may already have achieved its iPhone sales target for 2008
Apple may already have achieved its targeted 10 million iPhone sales for 2008, at least, that's what MacObserver forum members have claimed, as reported by Seeking Alpha.
A group of MacObserver readers have been compiling iPhone IMEI numbers into a public spreadsheet, and while it's not an exact science, these numbers offer strong indication that Apple may have already reached its stated target 10 million iPhone sales for 2008.
The evidence suggests Apple's manufactured 9.2 million iPhone 3Gs so far, which combined with the c.2.4 million v.1 iPhones gives Apple a total well over that target.
"The consensus estimates for iPhone sales figures for Apple's Q4 (calendar Q3) were calling for approximately 4 million units. It now appears that Apple has sold at least 7 to 7.5 million iPhones in Q4 - that's nearly 80 per cent above consensus. Apple has far surpassed even Gene Munster's bullish estimates of 5 million iPhone sales in Q4 according to the data," Seeking Alpha observes.

So are the G1 - the sold out of pre-sales already. Regardless of what you think about the phone, competition will slow sales and the Nokia 5800 has the ability to stop the iPhone in it's tracks.

I think the Nokia is a lot better phone.

Apple don't help themselves, the battery & crap camera means I would never buy an iPhone.

The battery is no worse than most other 3G phones. The camera isn't great, but then they aren't on most phones. The Nokia N95 is often held up as a great camera phone because it's 5MP, but in truth the quality is little better (if at all) than the iPhone. Fact is that if quality is important you need a camera, not a phone.
It'll be interesting to see what the new Nokia touch screen phone is like. Their previous flagship the N95 was on paper a great phone. In use it was pretty awful. The iPhone may lack in a couple of areas, but as long as they aren't must-have features for you, it's a much better phone. Better battery life as well!

I disagree, the N95 8gb features far surpass the iPhone and is a brilliant phone to use.
The camera is 5 megapixel with a Carl Zeiss lens and a flash, it can record video and send it as MMS. A camera is more important to me than a tinny media player.

Just goes to show that tastes vary. I hated the N95. The camera may be 5MP etc, but I have never seen anything produced on the N95 camera that backs up the difference, on paper, between that and the iPhone. Even a cheap point 'n' shoot will beat any phone pictures I have seen.
The iPhone may have less features but none that matter to me (for example I have had phones capable of MMS but have never sent or received one). Of course they may matter to others. The whole user interface I find so much better than the N95, and have found battery life to be much better.
Incidentally, my iPhone records video, courtesy of a free download.
I'm not one of those Apple fanboys that claim it is the best phone ever. It is the best phone around for my use, but I'm quite sure it isn't for people whose needs in a phone are different from my own. Such as yourself.
Not sure what you meant by 'tinny media player'.

I have the N95 8gb & since the latest firmware having going lots longer without charge.
I'll wait for Nokia 5800, I have plenty of Mac kit but I don't like the iPhone.
The new EU directive may help - they will have to provide batteries that can be changed by the user.

I can't believe how many of the comments are regarding the camera facility...!!!! It's a 'PHONE' with a superb iPod, Web Browser and endless other things with the 'App Store' oh....and a camera to take the odd snapshot......!!!!
Obviously Nokia have got it so right. Circa 10 million iPhone buyers in 2008 have got it soooo wrong.....!!!!!
