Part of my job which I enjoy enjoy immensely is incorporating 3D animation and visuals into and a part of my motion graphics. I have been working with 3D since about 1992 and I have been using Lightwave 3D for the last 10 years or so.I started using it on version 6.5 having moved from Softimage 3D (now Softimage DS) as I couldn't afford the astronomical price tag of the high end 3D apps. Strangely when I first started using LW I was amazed at how steep the learning curve was in comparison to Soft.

You know its funny that with all the hype surrounding the Ipad my big question right from the start - is the iPad going to have a scribe?It seems to me strange that a device with this kind of design and style is just begging for artists such as myself to be lured back to into the world of drawing. I know you're probably thinking why would you need one when you have a finger to do all that for you and plus this is an internet browser, video player, digital book, kitchen sink... you want what ... it to do more? Well when you're sketching finite detail your digits just sometimes aren't good or thin enough.

Well I can honestly say I've had some of the most difficult few weeks to date with my hardware and software. You know those days when everything seems to have a bug in it and you know its the start of a long and drawn out process trying to find the source of your problems. It usually happens when you install something new and the whole house of cards comes crashing down… but mind you not immediately. It usually happens two or three days after you've installed something, a delayed response to your idiocy of wanting the latest and greatest thing to make your life that much easier and faster.However I hadn't installed anything new.

The first website I saw was in 1993 back in the good old days, when sites were scrabbled together by programmers who had no sense of design or layout but still were the only ones who knew the black art of HTML. I started learning it back then because I knew that something big was about to happen and I wanted to be in on it. You know its a difficult task being a freelancer, what with keeping clients happy, keeping up with the latest technologies, maintaining the life/work balance, coming up with new ideas, keeping focussed, deadlines, keeping on top of tax, paying bills, mmm yes, paying bills...Its funny how when the bills come flying through the door I do my best to make sure I pay those bills without hesitation - user pays - I do subscribe to this ethos and I guess if a company is in business it subscribes to this ethos too. When an organisation takes you on as a freelancer - they - as do you enter into a contract that you supply the service and they pay the bill.

VJing at parties is always a difficult but fun way to show off your talents to your peers. Not only do you have to hold it together while everyone else gets mashed up you have to shine in every way so that your mates don't rip the guts out of what you're trying to achieve, which is ultimately their enjoyment and edification.At least strangers have the decency to hide their true feelings if you mess up. I've always admired DJs in the way that they selflessly mix tunes sober and in isolation while everyone else are off their heads having a great time.
