Something Borrowed For Hilary Swank
As the latest salvo in her ongoing operation to convince cinemagoers that not everything she does is intense and wreathed in Method-y sweat, Hilary Swank (oh, she’s not that bad) has snapped up the rights to Emily Giffin’s chick-lit novel, Something Borrowed, with an eye to starring.

Once it goes before cameras, Something Borrowed will join the likes of P.S. I Love You, The Core and The Reaping as movies that the double Oscar-winner hopes will showcase a different side of her, far from the likes of Boys Don’t Cry and Million Dollar Baby, and that will establish her as a box-office draw.

And, at first glance, Something Borrowed could well be the one. Giffin’s novel has done well in a crowded marketplace – well enough to spawn a sequel, Something Blue (which Swank and her producing partner, Molly Smith, have also snapped up), and it’s got a risky plotline that sets it apart from the likes of Sex And The City.

That plotline, by the way, revolves around a Manhattan attorney, Rachel, whose best friend, Darcy, has it all: money, good looks and a hunky fiancé. But when Rachel embarks on an affair with Dex, their friendship is put to the test. And then some.

Sounds like this could have it all – laughs, tears, sex, and glamour up the wazoo. We’re guessing that Swank will play Rachel, and if so, it’ll be interesting to see how sympathetic the character becomes. Certainly, there are shades of My Best Friend’s Wedding here, and if this movie approaches the success of that Julia Roberts flick, then Swank will be very happy indeed.
