Voltron Gets A Director

Voltron Gets A Director

There’s very little we can tell you about Max Makowski (apart from the fact that he's got a rather cool private eye-ish name) but he’s the man tapped to direct the long-gestating Voltron movie.

What-tron? Well, we’re not sure either but according to the (ahem!) journalistic resource that is Wikipedia, it’s a big-screen adaptation of an 80s Japanese cartoon series about a bunch of robot lions that combine to make an even bigger robot - with a lion’s mouth for a fist - and fight all sorts of evil and stuff.

Sounds a bit mental if you ask us, but in the wake of Transformers’ huge success there’s certainly an audience for heavy metal mayhem and production company Relativity is going ahead with plans to make a movie with a “more moderate budget, utilizing the type of cost-effective technology employed in films including 300.”

Makowski, who helmed the little seen Harvey Keitel flick One Last Dance and is attached to the mooted revamp of 70s TV show Kung Fu, has yet to release any cast, plot or release date details yet but the idea of a metal mash-up done on the cheap has piqued our B-movie-loving interest.

We’ll give you more info as we get it.
Glen Ferris

I used to love it when i was kid!!!!
Hello Empire, they used to show this cartoon in Italy when i was a kid, i used to have all the action figures of the lions of different colours and they connected to make the robot, i used to love it!!! Only if i remember right i think that in Italy it was called "Vultus 5" and not Voltron. I thought it was known in Great Britain too but as it appears no one has heard about it. With the visual effects of today's age i'm shure it will be a very spectacular movie like Transformers ... Read More
