Dracula Sequel Headed To Screens?
The Undead due in 2009

Dracula Sequel Headed To Screens?

It appears that Dracula is about to get a sequel. The Stoker clan have banded together and authorised Dracula: The Undead to follow Bram Stoker's original novel - and have also sold the film rights, with  Jan De Bont producing (and maybe, we guess, directing).

It is, perhaps, no surprise that the Stoker family are so keen on the plan, given that Bram's great-grandnephew Dacre Stoker has written the book along with Dracula historian Holt. The story picks up 25 years after the original, as the heroes of the original novel are being stalked by...(creepy music please)...someone. Holt and Stoker used Bram Stoker's original notes and found characters and plot threads written by him but cut from the original novel. Even the title of this one is Bram's original title, so with a bit of luck it will feel like a real sequel and not just another spin on the myth.

A screenplay for the book was written by Holt with Alexander Galant, and the plan is for that to shoot next June, just before the book is released in October 2009. Looks like Leslie Nielsen was right: Dracula is dead and loving it.

RE: Gary Oldman Is Dracula!
It's a known fact that Coppola's version of Dracula was a piece of self-indulgent horseshit.  It removed itself as far as possible from the source material by making the monster of the piece a misunderstood creature who hankered after his lost love.   Fuck.  Right.  Off.   Do it right, or not at all.    Thus far, the 1958 Hammer version has been the best in my opinion.  OK, not very close to the source material, but a damn fine film indeed.&n... Read More

RE: Gary Oldman Is Dracula!
L: jimoakley666   I'd say, as a good director, the guy who did 'The Orphanage' (can't recall his name) or Alfonso Cuaron. Clive Owen (maybe) as Harker, Emily Blunt as Mina (but hold on, aint she in The Wolf-Man? Hmmm), lo Giannini as VanHelsingniel Day-Lewis as Dracula. p; I'm sure he played Van Helsing in a recent mini-series starring Patrick Bergin.   I think this is going to go the same way as this new James Bond novel  Why do a sequel now?  Leave it alone!!!!!!... Read More

RE: Gary Oldman Is Dracula!
I'd like to see Francis Lawrence get the job of directing it. I think he did a decent job in creating a real sense of forboding in I Am Legend. Daniel Day-Lewis would be a great choice for Dracula (wasn't he up for Coppolas version?), just hope he doesn't take method acting too far! ... Read More

RE: Gary Oldman Is Dracula!
Stephen Sommers obviously referenced Oldman's 'Dracula' in 'Van Helsing' - a very guilty pleasure chez mois. But, damnit folks, the book has never really been done - Dracula is this cadaverous old man with a moustache, almost deathlike, and he retains that aura when he visits London. It repels the men in the book when they see him with the feamle characters - he isn't James Bond with fangs, he is death incarnate. ... Read More
