Celtic boss Strachan insists he won't panic buy

Gordon Strachan insists he will not buy players simply to appease the Celtic fans.

The Celtic manager admits transfer dealings are hard work because the financial riches of English clubs have made it 'a mad world'.

Strachan has added only Derry winger Paddy McCourt to the squad that finished last season, although he has tied up a permanent deal for Georgios Samaras.

After a protracted pursuit of Romania defender Gabriel Tamas from Auxerre seemingly stalled, Celtic are in danger of starting the season without any major signings.

But, speaking before his side's 1-0 defeat by Cardiff in Portugal last night, Strachan said: 'We'll only bring in good players. We get every Tom, Dick and Harry thrown at us and it's not going to happen.

'It doesn't say anywhere in your contract about having to buy new players.

'You have to have common sense from everyone. If everyone wants huge wages they have to go to England.

'But we can provide Champions League football, 60,000 people every home game, decent wages and a chance to enhance your career.'
