AZ deny link to midfield free-agent Davids

ALKMAAR, July 25 (Eredivisie) - AZ Alkmaar have denied former Holland international Edgar Davids is set to join the club after he was spotted training with Louis van Gaal's men on Friday.

The 35-year-old free agent has been working with AZ to improve his fitness before the start of the season, but club press officer Daan Schippers has denied he is a transfer target.

Schippers said: 'He is here to keep himself in shape, no other conclusions needs to be connected to this.'

The former Juventus, Barcelona and Internazionale midfielder was released by Ajax at the end of last season and is yet to find a new club.
