River labour to 2-0 victory over Rosario Central
BUENOS AIRES, August 18 (Apertura) - River Plate struggled to a 2-0 victory over Rosario Central for their first win in the Apertura tournament on Sunday.
River Plate needed 82 minutes to break the deadlock, with Eduardo Tuzzio heading in before Andres Rios added a last-minute second.
It was the second round of matches and River, after a draw in their opening fixture, lie two points behind sole leaders Tigre, who defeated Arsenal 2-1 on Saturday.
Ariel Colzera scored early in the second half as Huracan claimed a 1-0 win to send Racing Club to their second defeat in two games.
Racing, who avoided relegation last season by winning a play-off over second division side Belgrano, started the new season in a disappointing form and need to collect as many points as possible if they want to remain in the top flight.
Next weekend, Racing meet arch rivals Independiente and it should be a crucial game for the future of coach Juan Manuel Llop.
Lanus and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata played out a 1-1 draw.
Santiago Biglieri put Lanus ahead after eight minutes but the visitors equalised through Diego Villar.
The clash between Newell's Old Boys and Boca Juniors was postponed until September 3 as Boca played the Joan Gamper Trophy match against Barcelona on Saturday. The Catalan giants won 2-1.
