The tumultuous standing ovation given to murdered policeman's widow Kate Carroll when she rose to collect her deserved award of BT Woman of the Year showed the regard felt for this very courageous woman. She had earlier gained the Inspirational Woman of the Year title, a tribute to her moving comments made in the wake of the dissident republican gun attack which claimed the life of her husband Stephen in March this year. By an astonishing coincidence the gala awards night came on what would have been Stephen's birthday, adding a poignant touch to the event.
