Police in north Belfast and Newtownabbey are appealing for information in relation to a number of incidents in the area.

Burglary, Hollybank Drive

On Tuesday, October 13, at about 3pm, a house in Hollybank Drive, Monkstown, was entered whilst the homeowner was upstairs. A TV meter was taken.

Attempted burglary, Ballyclare Road

Sometime overnight on October 12-13, an attempt was made to burgle a house on the Ballyclare Road, Glengormley. The criminals tried to force the lock of a UPVC back door. No entry was gained and nothing was taken from the property.

Theft, Laurel Hill

On Tuesday, October 13, a resident of Laurel Hill, Newtownabbey, left two black bags of clothing on front door step to be collected by arrangement and ironed. The bags were gone by the time of collection.

Burglary, Carnmoney

On Thursday, October 15, two burglaries in the Carnmoney area were reported. A house in Ferndale Avenue was entered sometime between 1.30am and 6am on October 15. Cash was stolen. Another house, this time in Carnvue Road, was also entered. Cash and credit cards were stolen.

Fire, Charles Drive

At 3am on Friday, October 16, a car in Charles Drive, Ballyclare, was set on fire as it was parked in a driveway. It was completely burnt out.

Burglary, Aylesbury Mews

On Friday, October 16, a burglary in Aylesbury Mews was reported. Two cars were stolen, one was a silver Vauxhall Corsa EJZ8771, the other a black Ford Fiesta LJZ6688. A 40ins Sony Bravia TV, a Toshiba laptop and two digital HD professional cameras were also stolen.

Fireworks, north Belfast

In the lead up to Halloween, police in north Belfast have been conducting a number of proactive operations in relation to the sale and misuse of illegal fireworks, and the subsequent anti-social behaviour associated.

The local neighbourhood police team at Tennent Street has recently seized a significant number of illegal fireworks in the Ballysillan Road area and a report has been sent to the public prosecution service. Police will continue to patrol hotspot areas and carry out further operations to thwart the sale and use of illegal fireworks during Halloween.

Anyone who has information about recent incidents is asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information about any crime may be passed anonymously via the Crimestoppers Charity on 0800 555 111.

Play experts from New York and Brussels visited Northern Ireland last week to speak at a north Belfast-based group’s two-day conference.

PlayBoard’s Time for Play conference took place last Wednesday and Thursday (October 21 and 22) at Armagh City Hotel to explore key insights and updates on the development of the NI Executive’s Play and Leisure Implementation Plan.

The event not only emphasised the need to make time for play, but also the importance of achieving a greater understanding and strategic planning for play.

Dinah MacManus, principal at Holy Family Primary School in north Belfast and a delegate at the conference, said: “PlayBoard’s conference is a great opportunity for all of us with an interest in children and young people to learn from international best practice, case studies, and discuss play and leisure across a range of key themes with delegates and policy makers.

“It will undoubtedly enhance our understanding of play and leisure outcomes, as well as providing an opportunity to influence the planning process.”
