We require an investing nerd -- a stock market writer who can perform editing duties as well. You'll be based in our offices in central London and report to our Investing Editor. Typically you'll write half a dozen articles a week, but you'll need to roll up your sleeves and get dirty editing as well. On the writing front, you'll primarily be writing about topical stock market news such as the latest results from Tesco or Lloyds Banking Group. But you'll also be expected to write pieces about topics such as investment strategies, asset allocation, retirement investing, funds, commodities, emerging markets and so on. If it's of interest to private investors, then it's fair game for a Foolish article. When it comes to editing, you'll be on the lookout for problems of clarity, logic, grammar, style, and accuracy, helping to ensure compelling, error-free, and Foolish content. Here you'll be working with a team of two dozen or so freelance writers, co-ordinating their articles and ensuring that we always have plenty to fill our regular emails. This position calls for a lot of juggling, so we need someone who is intelligent, very comfortable with numbers, adaptable, patient, meticulous, reliable, and cool under pressure. Past experience working for a website or other publication is useful but not essential. At times, you'll contribute to our discussion boards, edit content for our subscription newsletters and help our PR develop stories that will drive the financial media wild with excitement.

Primary responsibilities/objectives

Write compelling daily investing content for the Fool website

Make substantive edits to articles and newsletter content for clarity, grammar, in-house style and general Foolish tone. Proofread all manner of content.

Use content management and related systems to ensure correct formatting etc.

Core competencies

Attention to detail

Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment

Ability to leap tall buildings and catch typos in a single bound

Willingness and confidence to tear apart an article and put it back together so that it is a better read -- without introducing mistakes in the process

Reading annual reports for fun

Ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects

Ability to work well with Fools at all levels

Ability to roll with the punches -- and give a few, too

Dependability and consistency

Preferred qualities

Experience as a writer and/or editor for website or other publication

Comfort and familiarity with Foolish style/long-term user of the Fool website

Several years (profitable) experience as a private investor

Patience of a saint

Sense of humour

Strong writing skills

Willingness to build better, stronger, Foolish writers

Passion for the Fool's mission

 Education and job knowledge

Undergraduate degree, which may be substituted for equivalent experience

This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions. Representing a combined annual readership of over 100 million, INSP street papers comprise a powerful independent media movement, speaking from the ground up for a more educated, engaged and equitable global society.

The INSP headquarters are based in Glasgow, Scotland. The small, highly-skilled staff team work closely with its member street papers in some 40 countries to eliminate poverty through enterprising street paper projects.

Job overview:

An exciting new role has arisen for an international news service editor to develop INSP’s ‘Street News Service (SNS)’ project. This editor needs to have a proven track record of producing high-quality material; either for an online news service or print publication(s). The editor needs to be a talented writer, as well as having the ability to manage the editorial processes of an online news service. Ideally this editor will also have experience of managing staff or volunteers as well producing and editing material on time and within budget.

This news service’s primary aim is to support INSP’s global membership of independent social media by collating, editing, posting and distributing quality, multi-lingual editorial content for exchange. The role will also require the editor to expand the distinctive international impact of the street paper message through developing exclusive, in-house content and building a bold public profile and links with external communication networks.

Because INSP carries out specialised work with a small staff, this position requires a diverse range of skills and abilities related to both detail-oriented, day-to-day editing and writing tasks, as well as proactive and creative project development and innovation.

The news service editor must have a degree in a journalism-related field, providing the relevant writing and editing skills required for the post as well as sufficient background in issues of independent media, global poverty and urban homelessness relevant to the street-paper niche. His or her employment history (at least 3-4 years) must include work in online or print media environment (including freelance) and the demonstrated ability to work well in an international and inter-cultural environment. Other core skill requirements include: strong editing skills, proficiency in an international language in addition to English (preferably German or Spanish), interactive multi-media skills, CMS experience, volunteer management, budget management and strong abilities in both written and verbal communication.

The news service editor will report directly to executive director, as well as five non-executive directors, who represent the worldwide membership of the INSP. The news service editor will work independently with support from a marketing consultant, volunteers and interns, and alongside a small team of other INSP staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities:

1.
