The successful candidate will be of graduate calibre, with at least one year’s experience of using InDesign in a commercial publishing environment. They should be familiar with other Adobe CS packages, PDF-based workflows and MS Office. They must possess strong organisational and communication skills, and have a keen eye for detail and a firm grasp of the English language, as copy-editing and proof-reading will be an important part of the job. The role involves a varied workload across multiple titles, so flexibility and adaptability are also key attributes.

The post is full-time and will be based in our modern Slough offices, although occasional overseas travel may be involved. Starting salary is in the £18-23k range, depending on skills and experience. The company offers benefits including healthcare and pension schemes.

We are looking for a new reporter to provide news and feature content for the music section.

The successful candidate will have:

A good knowledge of contemporary pop music
Enthusiasm for artists featured heavily on Digital Spy, such as Lady GaGa, Girls Aloud and Robbie Williams
Interest in the wider entertainment world, including categories covered by Digital Spy
The ability to source and produce news articles in the house style, with high frequency and working to fast turnaround times

Excellent attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy

Contract, hours, location: Working hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The corporate communications team drives all elements of global corporate communications - publications strategy (external and internal), branding, editorial services, web design, internal and external communication with stakeholders and communications production.

The Role:

Reporting to principal advisor - communication services you are accountable for:

Developing and implementing the strategy for Rio Tinto publications
Inputting, shaping and implementing the Group wide plan for communications services - including tone of voice, editorial services, brand, communications production and agency management
Delivering best practice across all channels - print and online
As senior member of the communication services team, mentoring the editorial team (adviser - editorial) and acting in charge of the communication services team when required
Developing content for the annual report and acting as editor and main writer for Rio Tinto Reports group wide newsletter and external quarterly magazine for shareholders
Responsible for editorial input and guidance for news items for www.riotinto.com
Sourcing, writing and developing stories for intranet site and organise translation into French
Executive speeches and presentations as required e.g. CEO, chairman, AGM, investor relations presentations
Advice and consultancy to the internal communications team on content of staff announcements
Keeping an overview on best practice in terms of external communications within the mining and other industries
Back-up for media relations role

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

Appropriate tertiary level qualifications ideally a journalism degree
Proven journalistic experience of working on a newspaper and in-house at a large corporate dealing with senior personnel
Experience of leading a team and working across a wide geographical location on external and internal media
Excellent project management, planning and scheduling skills
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills

Description:
Financial Adviser, part of Financial Times Business, has a vacancy for an ambitious, enthusiastic chief reporter who can deliver high-quality financial services stories.

The successful candidate will be required to build up a strong industry contacts book, break exclusives and meet strict editorial deadlines.

Ideally, the applicant for chief reporter will have a strong grasp of the issues affecting the financial services industry, a bulging contacts book and will be able to deputise for the news editor in their absence.

Key tasks:
Writing a minimum of five news stories a day for Financial Adviser and FTAdviser.com, building up a strong contacts book and getting exclusive stories. Offering support and guidance to junior reporters. Managing the newsdesk in the absence of the news editor.

Essential skills:
Reporting and contact building experience. NCTJ qualifications and industry knowledge preferred, although not necessary.
