We have a vacancy for a news reporter with ideally at least one year's experience. The position will involve working on our market-leading website, letsrecycle.com, as well as on a range of magazines.

You should be educated to degree-level, have a qualification in journalism and be a proficient news writer and have experience of feature writing. A good shorthand speed will be an asset as will an interest in current affairs.

The position offers an opportunity to work on a fast-paced news desk providing news articles for letsrecycle.com which covers a range of environmental issues centred around recycling and waste management. You could be writing about the latest government policy on carrier bags, reporting on recycling controversies in part of the UK, the markets for waste paper or interviewing senior figures within the retail sector.

The post involves travel within the UK and sometimes further afield.

The Environment Media Group is a publisher with an increasing range of titles covering the environment sector. We are based near London's Waterloo station and offer a competitive salary and five weeks holiday per annum.

The position is initially being offered on a one-year basis for maternity cover.

Role purpose
The Lifestyle Editor will oversee the creation of brilliant content for multiple projects across web and social media channels on behalf of one of the UK’s biggest retailers.

Applications are invited for two web officers for a one year appointment. The successful candidates will join the Web Services team within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Web Services supports the delivery of web sites and web services to the staff and students within the Faculty and is comprises expertise in web design, web administration and application development.

As a web officer you will be involved in the development of quality web sites using the University’s content management system. You will work with colleagues within the team and our schools to plan and develop site structures, the use of social media and the development of content, as well as assist in ensuring the overall integrity and usability of our sites.

The successful applicant should have experience of managing a website or significant internet/ intranet project, preferably within a communications or marketing context. You should have an understanding of web production software, web analytics, writing for web, web design, search engine optimisation and publishing including XHTML, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, XML, XSL, Ajax and cross platform testing. You will have experience of managing content and web accessibility standards, knowledge and experience of rights clearance, including permissions, copyright and data protection.

With experience of coordinating/working within a project environment, you will have had some exposure web scripting with PHP. You should have an understanding of best practice within the web environment and be able to apply styles and existing designs to raw content. You will be able to work effectively as part of a team or on your own initiative, solving problems and taking the lead on projects.

You will need to have expertise in writing copy and proof reading, writing for a range of different media and have marketing skills. You should have experience of working in a journalistic role (acquiring copy material and developing it into a form appropriate for publication). You should also have experience of making use of social media to support communications and marketing objectives, a high standard of communication, prioritisation and problem solving skills and a flexible, co-operative and creative approach to work. You must be customer-focused, having previously reworked internal based information for external target markets.

What we expect from you:

Future Publishing is looking for a Production Assistant to work in its new Bookazines department to work on a diverse range of titles published globally in print and on tablet.

As Production Assistant you'll be part of a small team delivering bookazines for print overseas covering a wide variety of new subject areas. You'll create flatplans of reuse bookazines and work closely with the Designer to organise an efficient workflow system for each bookazine. Managing multiple schedules, you'll play a key role in organising the team ensuring each bookazine is delivered on time and to a high level of accuracy. You'll sub-edit InDesign pages, ensure consistency of repurposed content, as well as having the opportunity to write compelling coverlines, introductions and contents pages.

You'll have a superb grasp of written English, have strong sub-editing and writing skills and ideally have experience of working on a newsstand magazine. You'll also need a flexible approach, able to work under your own initiative as well as being able to take direction.

The successful candidate will be a bioscience graduate. A postgraduate qualification in journalism or communications - or some experience of medical publishing - would be a big advantage.
